Live Blogging Live

Testing our live blogging system. This will be used for some things in the future hopefully

OK everyone, I’m moving over to testing a live coverage system which is a bit more advanced. Unfortunately I can’t embed it on this web page due to current security restrictions, but if you click on this paragraph it will take you to a page with it on.

Hey guys, this is another, more complex, external live blog system. Due to tech issues I once again haven’t much control over, try using this to load a pop up with the service in

Just changed some formatting settings…

OK, so the formatting on that is a bit dodgy, that’s another thing I’m bearing in mind when decided what we’re actually going to use to cover live events. You may wonder why stuff like this is useful for us, especially as we are in the process of making video. Well, essentially live blogging things allow us to draw together different things that happening throughout the event, and most importantly, keep the user who is watching the live stream, or something similar informed on what is going on.

A case in point would be Roses coverage, where we’ll be able to tell you when our shows are going live up to the second they go live, what to expect in them, what sports we are covering today and what the other student media organisations are up to. It’s not our job to necessary ‘cover’ the event, but live blogging will act as a great way to keep the viewers informed and field questions for guests etc.

Wow, awesome that seemed to go. Basically, the next big thing (other than the half-secret thing that we’re not really supposed to talk about yet) for the website is to roll out some new features that will help user interaction. User interaction will probably mean that stuff such as these live blogs will become a more standard thing.

Plus it means I get to put a really bad picture of me next to text I write.
